The Rickmansworth Festival Management team met on Wednesday 27th of January to review the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic and the likelihood of restrictions being lifted in time for our 2021 Festival to go ahead. Based on the most recent Government announcement on the March timing for the start of any relaxation in the current national lock down the team feel it will be impossible to hold the Festival on the 15th and 16th May. We are a volunteer run event with limited resources and the open nature of the site means that any residual social distancing requirements would make it impossible for us to manage the event safely if indeed any large outdoor events are permitted by then.

So it is with great regret that the Rickmansworth Waterways Trust has decided to cancel the 2021 Rickmansworth Festival and we will plan for an event on the 21st and 22nd May 2022. We know this will be a great disappointment to all the participants and to the Rickmansworth area community and we hope it will be possible for outside events to restart at some point later in 2021.

Cancelling the festival for the second year running will result in significant challenges for the Trust as the public donations made at the festival support a significant part of our running costs. Our operations will hopefully be able to restart later in 2021 as soon as it is safe to do so and I hope we will see you at Batchworth Lock for an ice cream or boat trip in the near future.

We will be keenly watching the planned roll out of the vaccines and hopefully a rapid improvement in the current situation during 2021. We will be in touch again very soon, so please keep the dates of the 21st and 22nd May 2022 in your diaries, when we hope to welcome you to our next Festival.
