KST 1 & 2

Support your curriculum work for KST1/KST2 with a visit to Batchworth Lock Canal Centre. Parties of primary children come for a fun learning activities day – exploring the way of life for canal people and the importance of canals.

The programme is flexible and can cover topics which include:

How people lived on the canal
Canals and the industrial revolution
Transporting goods
The Victorians

A Typical Activities Programme:

Visit the Restored narrow boat cabin to sense how people used to live
Dress in clothes of bygone days
Take a short trip on our ferry; look around at boats and wildlife
Find out how a lock works
Walk around the lock area and discover traces of a previous busy community.

Some Points of Information:

Visit cost is £7.00 per head
Times are normally between 09.45 and 14.30
Transport can be arranged for you through Arriva and all coaches are
fitted with safety belts.
The Trust’s staff and volunteers will run the activities for you.
School staff/supporters will be expected to supervise the children.
For Safety, a Risk Assessment of the site has been carried out.
Arrangements can be made for you to see the centre before your visit.
Buoyancy aids are provided for the ferry trip.
